about

Tek Time is the debut EP from Chris Munky and Guesswork, featuring Rayjah45. The 4 track release includes bass-heavy roller sprinkles with sounds of the middle east and is accompanied by an instrumental version, a remix from Bristol producer Pulsar and a sax fuelled dub version.

With Chris Munky now residing in Australia and Guesswerk in Bristol, this release has been a long time coming. Both talented, multi-genre producers in their own right, Chris Munky and Guesswerk have long histories of releasing their productions on various labels around the world. The “Tek Time” EP drops as BBR008 on Banana Bombs Records, bringing home the sounds of Bristol and cross pollinating them with Rayjah’s Mãori roots that shine through in his rich vocals. Tek Time is a nod to both the ruff and the smooth coexisting together on the same plane at the same time.

The intro to Tek Time sets the scene for the 4-track release, Stacey Doherty’s indian flute, drenched in natural reverb, draw you in before the punchy drum rhythms kick in. Rayjah45’s vocals “It’s just a matter of time” tie everything together before the deep subs drop to warm up everything up for the soundsystem heads.

Tek Time Instrumental is a nod both to Bristol’s rich musical heritage and thriving sound system culture. Laden with deep grinding sub bass, cymbal clashes and guitar riffs, the instrumental version focuses on the instruments working alongside each other. Perfect for DJs to run with their own MCs or just to zen out to wherever you are listening in.

Bristol-based dubstep heavyweight Pulsar makes an appearance on the EP with a wobbly, dub siren infused remix of Tek Time. Picking up the pace a little, Pulsar’s added drum beats adds a layer of urgency to the track while keeping it grounded with organic sounds.

Adding some welcome brass into the mix, the release ends with a silky sax-dub remix where the lines between dub/dubstep and jazz blur to form an easy-listening but bass-heavy concoction
